I’m looking for free AI API proxy or gateway services that let you test different language models without paying upfront.

I’ve tried a few options already. Some offer generous free access but quickly hit rate limits, while others are more stable but only provide a small selection of free models. I also found a couple of services that looked promising, but I couldn’t get them working, even after following the setup instructions.

Before I spend more time testing, I’d like to know what the community recommends.

For testing, I’d compare 2–3 free AI API gateways based on rate limits, model selection, uptime, and API setup. A service with fewer free models but reliable access can be more useful than one offering many models with strict limits.

I’d also check the paid pricing before getting too dependent on a provider, especially if you may scale later. Testing the same prompts across providers is probably the best way to find which one actually works for your use case.
